A museum for the things we kept from people we couldn’t.

Photograph the object. Tell us what happened. The Leaving Room turns the emotional evidence of former relationships into thoughtful, anonymous exhibits—without turning pain into spectacle.

Anonymous by default. Public only with permission. Real names and identifying details are never published without explicit consent.

Our promise

Your history stays yours.

I.

Permission before publication

You choose whether an exhibit may appear publicly. A private commissioned exhibit stays private.

II.

People remain protected

We remove real names, identifying details, private messages, faces, and unverified accusations from public stories.

III.

Care, not revenge

Every story is edited with compassion, restraint, and enough dark humor to let the object breathe.

How it works

From private evidence to a finished exhibit.

Keys, receipts, rings, playlists, letters, and the deeply ordinary things that somehow became impossible to throw away.

Step 01 · Submit

Show us the object. Tell us why it survived.

Upload one clear photograph and write the story in your own words. Tell us what it is, how long you kept it, and whether you still speak to the person connected to it.

“She kept this motel key for eleven years.”

Step 02 · Choose

Private, public, or undecided.

Select complete anonymity and control publication separately. Submitting an object never automatically grants permission to share it.

Step 03 · Receive

We make the label.

Paid exhibits are shaped into polished museum text or narrated video. You receive a confirmation, then a note when your exhibit is ready.

The exhibit desk

A place for every kind of keeping.

Submit freely, commission a permanent digital record, or turn the story into something you can share. No subscription and no hidden fees.

What did you keep?

Maybe it is still in a drawer. Maybe it has moved houses with you three times. Give the object a label—and give the story somewhere else to live.
